When you sign up this is what mailman states to you.
This is a Mailman policy not a SeaPig policy.
Your email address:
Your name (optional):
You may enter a privacy password below. This provides only mild
security, but should prevent others from messing with your
subscription. Do not use a valuable password as it will occasionally
be emailed back to you in cleartext.
If you choose not to enter a password, one will be automatically
generated for you, and it will be sent to you once you've confirmed
your subscription. You can always request a mail-back of your
password when you edit your personal options. Once a month, your
password will be emailed to you as a reminder.
As far as Google groups go.
I believe that would force everyone to have to sign up again and or
have a google account to do so.
If so, that is going to be a lot of work don't you think?
Right now this list while public in nature is still private and
limited to it's members only.
Or is it being crawled by Google, Yahoo or Bing, etc..
If you want the list to be more public and searchable why not look into
http://www.nabble.com/
http://n4.nabble.com/archive-your-mailing-list.html
Just remember once you do this the list post will show up in the
"Search engines".
Is this a good or bad thing for this organization and it's membership?
The nice thing about this list is just works right now with very
little effort on anyone's part.
Do we really what to change what has and is working just fine?
If we do change it will we loose or gain members?
The overall list activity is pretty minimal.
Do we really want search engines reading it?
Do we gain or loose anything by doing this?
+1 to leave it as is.
And for members to use unimportant passwords.
And or consider using a email account just for email list activity vs
you main email accounts.
So far no one has ever hijack or spammed this list that I have ever
seen.
Something to think about.
