Are you able to reproduce this at your end? Basically, you should
be. Just rpm -e the updated RH tripwire package. Go back to the one
from tripwire.org. Install it and go through the up2todate process
again. If you cannot reproduce the complete removal of /etc/tripwire,
maybe you have a serious problem somewhere.

Checking the %POSTUN script from that tripwire.org package could be
a hint, too.
