I just installed compat-libs, erased star office and reinstalled it
again. I'm still suck at the "Failed to load necessary components"
stage.

There is one new thing, though: I have noticed only this last time
that, when I launch the installation program:

[marco@polaris marco]$
/mnt/cdrom/linuxc8/software/staroffice_lnx/so-5_2-ga-bin-linux-it.bin

it says as the first and only thing on the command line:

glibc version: 2.2.2

To me, this seems to mean that, no matter which compatibility rpms I
install, the installation program doesn't see them at all, not to
mention the actual binary. I reran ldconfig after installing the rpms:
should I do something else?

Once more, thank you very much to you all for your promptness and
patience.

                Ciao,

                    Marco Fioretti
