That was me.  I also mentioned a few other reasons, but just to respond
to that point:


You could, but its not nearly as convenient as having one name to go to.
Imagine getting an e-mail evry few days: "Securityfocus.com can now be
reached at ... "


Even easier is to use dyndns.org and every time you change it will
register with that.

2 problems with dyndns (and the other services like it):

You can't have a nameserver listed with networksolutions or another
registrar if your IP address changes that regularly.

You can't be the A record IP for a domain unless you are willing to
CNAME your entire domain over to the dyndns address


But, You can get around these by using dyndns as your DNS provider.


In short, it makes it more of a pain, and if you really want a static IP,
you're usually willing to pay for it.  If not, they can use the easier
methods of handing you an IP.
