When Cominco American Inc was looking for diamonds in the 80's, we probably
ran everything including SP on the Pipes in the US. Several things come to
mind. Since we did not use IP as a general exploration tool, I am assuming
that the response was not definitive enough to continue its use. We
generally used only Mag and EM-31 on the ground.
Having said it was obvious that there are definitely different phases
associated with the pipes, I would guess that some of the more solid phases
which were highly magnetic, were solid enough had a high resistivity of
around 1500 ohm meters and I thinking would have given more than 3 ms or
response.
These were not in true kimberlite but lamprophyre, and the mineralogy is
slightly different. In no cases did the high resistivity, high magnetic
(IP?) phases carry diamonds, but were only one phase of the entire pipe and
associated with the diamond rich phases.
