If we do the work to support push model, it would be relatively simple to
support a push model environment, as well.
The first and easiest thing we could do, from your list, would be to
optionally support JDK 1.4 in order to pick up STARTTLS. And that would
give people an incentive to upgrade the JVM without forcing them to do so.
I'd be +1 for that change as soon as anyone wanted to code it.
