it's a substantial work developed outside apache so it's best to have
a software grant on record. the process is detailed at
http://incubator.apache.org/ip-clearance/index.html and is reasonably
smooth now.

Hi Robert, thank you for the help.

I've not clear the exact sequence: can we vote to accept the code and have it committed in our trunk now and then start the IP-Clearance of the things committed or we should avoid to have it committed until we completed all of the steps?

This would help us to avoid to further delay the integration of that contribution.

PS: the contribution itself is a derivative work of something that already was in our repository (imap codebase was already an ASF product, joachim fixed it and added the missing pieces: permanent storage capabilities and more).
