The NNTP blocks and config should be commented out in the default distribution.
In v2.2, We've starting to refactor the various sections of the config file into separate files. Commenting things out does not improve the visual impact, and a common error is mis-matched <!-- --> pairs. Just set enabled="false" for any service you don't want enabled.
Well, not to get stuck on "mechanism", my point really is that IMHO NNTP is not part of a default mailserver config.... use it, don't... ;-)
