Hi

Why not use a tool for a specific task?
So you would use a visual composer for creating gui's.
A simple soure editor with filemanagement for working with sources.
A source control/backup system for saving and maintaining versions and
editions.

This would imply that you can use the very best tool that is availabe for
the task you want to do.
You would not have to wait for your fav all-in-one IDE-vendor to upgrade
your IDE.
You would also not be bound to one vendor for everything you need.

This would also mean that if you choose your tools carefully, you would be
able to plug-in a new JDK.
(Lots of tools support that option.)

Only thing is, all the different tools must be able to work together. (At
least on source level.)

For myself I use.
VisualeAge for visual composing.
Kawa for source editing (Plus vi for the short changes.)
Visual SourceSafe for keeping track of editions.

Every now and then I look at other tools and sometimes I even change my
tools.
