Which prompts my question...
I'd like to serve up a servlet-based fantasy football league application to
a handful of geographically distributed people. Are there ISPs out there
that will give you enough control to support servlets (in the US at least)?
Or is there another avenue?

It's very likely that they are hosted on an ISP's machine, which doesn't
support servlets, as is often the case.
