I subscribe to several high traffic mailing lists. I end up
reading a lot of off topic posts. I spend way too much of my time
wading through off topic posts. I find off topics posts to be the
sign of either an completely inconsiderate or a very ignorant person.
People who deliberately post off topic messages are selfish and
insulting boors. They assume their time must be more valuable than
the time of 1000's of other people. They deserve nothing but
derision.
People who unknowingly post off-topic messages are simply
ignorant and deserve a polite private email informing them of
their mistake.
None of the off-topic posts deserves an answer beyond a
pointer to the correct place to ask the question.
I've seen several good mailing lists destroyed when the
S/N ration crashed and all the knowledable people left
for greener pastures. Please help keep that from happening
here.
