There is frequent griping about the volume of this mailing list, particularly with respect to questions that start "someone has probably answered this already...".
Nic Ferrier and others point people to the list archive, which is somewhat helpful, but how about a weekly FAQ (or URL to a FAQ in the footer of every email)? If newcomers to the list could read the FAQ first, I'll bet it would cut out at least 20% of the volume (session problems alone must account for that much traffic).
People who ask questions that are answered in the FAQ could be redirected to the FAQ without inciting redundant discussion on the list.
We need:
- Maintainers,
- A site to host the FAQ
- Some cooperation from the list maintainers to help point newbies to the FAQ.
