I did try some time ago to get people to move the FAQs to dmoz.org
(the Open Directory) which as a search engine has a rather neat FAQ
feature and is a (fairly) natural place to send people.
dmoz was setup by Netscape I belive but is not-for profit and (I
think) independant.
This would have the benefit of not requiring funding
Unfortunately, setting up an FAQ is is a lot of work (i know from
just maintaining the Servlets and authentication FAQ - a tiny part of
what is needed) and people are naturally reluctant to throw their work
away in a shared effort. I can well understand that.
What is needed is effort. Both FAQ maintainers have done a really
good job but at the end of the day a traditional FAQ Is just too
difficult to to do.
A whole new FAQ site would be great... but that takes effort to
setup.
But hey! maybe their are volunteers on the list willing to take this
up.
