Please. In this day and age, I think anyone who isn't at least a
little protective of their personal info is somewhat naive and/or
ignorant. And it doesn't mean you have something to hide.

When was this? I work at a university, and the issue of privacy and
use of the SSN is a hot one, and things are moving towards not using
it (moving slowly though, since it's so entrenched, especially at a
big school like I'm at).
Further, there're lots more legitimate reasons that colleges would
need SSN than Sun (like identification, official records, financial
information).
Apologies for this off-topic post, but I felt this response deserved a
response.
