The command line client also accepts multiple command line parameters that allow you to control the downloading, if there's a readme file with it give it a read. That's what seti driver is based on, as far as I can tell.

Goto http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/unix.html and download the Seti text based client. You'll notice a vast increase in performance. I have a Duron 650 with 384MB RAM and using the graphics client it took me 12 -14 hours per work unit. Using the text based client it now only take me 8 - 9 hours per work unit.
