I know of no software that allows me to edit these file and that comes with
OpenSolaris.

troff macros for man pages that allow to use only a few easy to identify
constructs for structurizing man pages. If SolBook was OK, then is was possible
to convert the format back to an editable troff version without loss,
but this is obviously not the case.
BTW: did yu ever try to enhance one of the man pages originated by Sun?
It is a nightmare!
P.S. We did decide already some time ago that man pages for OSS that is not
owned by Sun stays in troff format.
