I used more tape than I normally would, almost the whole length of the grip, and plenty of solvent. The tape did not adhere well to the dowel, especially when wet, but that was not much of a problem. I made sure to clamp the "shaft" firmly, and VERY CLOSE to the dowel. With these preparations, I'd say it was a pretty average slipping-on. I've occasionally had much harder ones on regular shafts.
