Tom, My disagreement had nothing to do with the incorrect hitting of a provisional. You're right on with that.
But you also said... "Further, if he were to claim a lost ball, he would have had to hit another ball from the approximate place where the first ball was presumed lost." That is what I disagreed with. Rule 27.1 is equally clear that you can't do that. Hope this clarifies my objection.
