After they make a really good putt, comment on it. Later when they have a crucial putt ask: " I have been watching your wonderful putting style,,,I am curious,,,do you breathe in or out on the take away?"
Has worked over 99% of the time. For friends I let them putt again at their convinience and pick up a beer for them. For the as*holes, I let it lie.

Tom,It does make theoretical sense. My explanation would be that since you are able to more easily hang onto your club, you are likely gripping it softer and there is reduced tension in your hands, forearms, etc. and this results in the ability to apply more power at impact and more distance.
