I rarely use a screw-type shaft pusher any more. Even though I have 2
homemade pushers I generally use a slotted crowbar and a propane torch. If I
happen upon a head that's really difficult to push off the shaft I'll use a
mechanical pusher. It takes too long to set up the pusher. A crowbar is
easier and faster, I think.

Subject: ShopTalk: shat puller?

> I've been using the Tflan homebrew shaft puller for the last couple years,
and it has worked pretty well. The problem is that the vise I built it for
is questionable, and access to the materials to rebuild it is no longer
there for me. So, I'm in the market for a shaft puller. I'm trying to keep
the price at a minimum, and Mitchell has their 2001 models on clearance.
The pro model that was normally $169 are $119, and the original model that
was normally $139 are now $89.

these models seemed to have a problem with slippage.
