tflan that was terrible! But since I know a Timothy Murphy
I immediately passed it on to him :-)

I am typing with a large smile on my face. I just upgraded
my old Compaq 400 mhz Pentium II to a 1.4 ghz Celeron for $150.

Absolutely painless. Took 30 minutes tops, including putting
a notch in a plastic air duct that the Compaq's fan used.

Just pulled the old processor board out and put the new one in.

Check out http://www.powerleap.com (need to use Internet Explorer)

The can do an on-line scan of your system, reporting a ton of
technical stuff. You just e-mail it to them and they send back
a recommendation. You can also check their compatibility lists
for your system.

Impressive stuff. You might have a problem with a really old
system's BIOS, but they have a 30-day no questions asked return
policy.
