Hi, Friends!
Sibyl is (or may be was) one of the best RAD pascal tool for OS/2. For
now we do not have any other really working apps of that type. So, I
think first of all we *must* discuss main purpose of our project:
What we want to do?
- Language - Independent IDE and RAD tool? Yes, this is a great deal
but, I do not whant to create this tool and I think that this way is
very long and we will work more than 1 or 2 years to do it.
- Platform - Independed tool? May be, may be, but the best way I think
is to make a tool that can Import/Export Delphi/Kylix projects, so we
can occupy Win32 an Linux targets.
- Pascal-oriented IDE and RAD? I think this is the best way. More over,
this is the shortest way, so for now we have some Classes and so RAD
tool that we can modify and debug.
- As for Sibyl Fix#4 and Fix#3 - for now I am staing on Fix#3 couse I
correct some errors in Classes and can compile my SysInfo/2 project.
When I try to move to Fix#4 - I find that all errors that were found by
me in Fix#3 were going to Fix#4 and more! My project do not work with
Fix#4, it crushs just after executing. As for me I DO NOT KNOW any
working apps that were compiled using Sibyl Fix#4.
- As for adding menu and modifing keys in IDE editor. This is very
simple to add to current Sibyl sources. This way is quite more simple
that a way to modify RAD to call to external editor! I can do Sibyl
sources modification to add menu and keys modifing in 3-4 days!
So, I think that our best choice is to:
1)Choose a Compiler/RC/Linker/Debbuger. Pascal ones!
2)Modify and Debug current Sibyl IDE and Classes sources.
3)Build a first working Opensource Pascal OS/2 RAD. ;-))
Regards, Alexey Smirnov.
P.S. I am still behind a strong firewall, so I ask you to tell me the
way how can I take part in our project couse I can't work with CVS.
