In my opinion the whole point of the email archives is that you can send an email (I do this way), then I don’t need to keep it anymore in my client/server, because if I need to point to that email in the future, I know it will be archived and I will be able to send back a link to it.
I always send emails to list using my email client. If I expect some response, I will delete my original “sent” email and wait for the response in the list (by email), so I can reply to it. I only need the archive, if times pass and I didn’t got a response, because my original email will be still there.
