I did that a few weeks ago, it just wasn't worth the trouble to keep up IMHO.
It sucked when I needed a program for one specific project, had to download
and compile it, just to delete it a few days later. About every 6 months I
alternate between redhat and debian when I get annoyed at some
package/dependency problem.
