Previous to the message this was in reply to, I had not actually said anything
to or heard anything from RMS. I would've liked to have been informed earlier,
but we all want a lot things.

I told him that we(SIGLinux) would figure something out over the next month
about a name acceptable to him. I really want to see RMS speak here.
A temporary name or group is unacceptable to me, but a dropping a syllable is
not(SIGNULinux pronounced with a silent NU). The reason I don't want something
temporary is that I want to make new shirts to sell to give the acm funds to
fund us with. I want to be able to sell them when RMS lectures here too.

I also said that since he still wants to visit Austin, I will organize over the summer
a visit in september.

Does a GNU/Linux user group have to either include GNU or not include Linux at
    all in their short name?

Yes, this is important. If the name says "Linux" without "GNU", that
conveys a very clear message to the public--the wrong message.

Even when the group is recognized as a GNU/Linux user
group and refers to our beloved free OS as GNU/Linux?

It wouldn't be recognized by *the public*, that is the problem.
Calling the whole system "Linux" is the cause of many other problems,
so we are asking you to show the public that you don't call the whole
system "Linux".

That leaves a wide range of possible names. Surely you can
find one that works for you.

How about SIGNULinux? That is only two more characters than your
existing name. It runs together SIG and GNU, which I think that is
cute.

Now, as for the possible visit:

range. There are absolutely no direct flights. As of now, if you stay from the
25th(Wed.) through the 27th(Sat.) we can get you a 7 hour trip here and a 6 hour

Actually I thought I had decided weeks ago that this April would
not work. I am surprised you thought it was still on.

I am having a busy time and would like some time to recuperate.
Although in general I would like to visit Austin again, I would
rather not squeeze it into April--or do it in such a hurry.

However, I have a policy that if a GNU/Linux User Group asks me fo
give a speech, I will do so at the first convenient opportunity.
So if your group picks a suitable name now, I will come then.
