This year, I can help with the turkey at Thanksgiving at my sambandhi's home in Maine, instead of working at something else with my back to it as I did last year!
...but no...I still avoid cutting even beetroot....so knowing it may not help!

The red juice in a rare steak is not blood. All the blood of beef has
been drained after the animal has been killed. (This is also required
to satisfy "halal" and "kosher" requirements anyway.)
The liquid you see is proteins suspended in water. The red colour comes
from myoglobin, which denatures as the meat cooks and gradually turns to
brown.
