There are quite a few of them, although not exactly on ACLU lines. Particularly concentrated in areas like the environment and stuff, but occasionally, they do useful things in other areas. Eg: the People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) had a Supreme Court case in 1997 which strongly established a right to privacy under the Constitution, and restricted the powers of the government to order wiretaps. But certainly, we need a much bigger, more active and better funded organization. Badri
