Can I ask a stupid question as a prelude to a convoluted answer?

How does an iPod differ from any one of a number of similar music/ other media
reproducing devices in the market?

Isn't owning an "iPod" a fashion statement or is content for iPods far more
comprehensive that anyone else can get?

I picked up an Oppo V3I MP4 player a couple of weeks ago (only available in China). It plays AVI XviD videos, MP3, MP4, FLAC, includes an eBook reader (plain text only), an FM radio with an automatic tuner, a sound recorder with an in-built microphone, plugs in as a straightforward mass storage device, and has an utterly gorgeous display. Rs 4500 for a 4 GB version.

I loved it.

Two days later, I was back to using an iPod.

Features and physical beauty do not make usability.
