There's a wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greg_Packer and lots of coverage on FakeSteveJobs about the first guy in line. He's a "first in line" hobbyist. I suspect he doesn't really want an iPhone, just a chance for more media attention.

Connecting to the Internet is slow as molasses because of the Cingular/AT&T network, which is not the greatest.
