I would suggest you avoid going through Madhya Pradesh. Horrible roads throughout. Rajasthan is not that bad, AFAIK. And Bombay - Pune to Bangalore should be the best part of the trip.
November 2002, I had planned to ride from Bangalore to Indore (M.P.) myself but never got to do it as I had to move to the US at short notice.
