The best one is a 6 (or is it 7) volume translation by Karthik Narayanan,
published by Macmillan India.
It is one of the very few book series (the other being the Aubrey Maturin
novels) for which I went on a serial buying spree (buy one, read it in a
day or two, go back to the store for the next one)
And my mom and aunt (both ponniyin selvan fanatics who have bound volumes
of the original serialized version, and who have read and re-read it ad
infinitum) loved it too. Comment was that they felt as happy reading it as
they did the original - especially the lush descriptions of people,
scenery, incidents etc Kalki was famous for.
