I have no opinion about whether or not it is good to learn Chinese
from an economic or social point of view. I tend to get annoyed when
people assume that the reason Ezekiel and I are learning Chinese is
economic or social, when it has more to do with the fact that I find
it an interesting language, and useful from the brain engineering
point of view more than anything else.

P.S. Sanskrit speakers on the list may be amused to learn that English
discussions of Chinese pronunciation tend to include the term "tone
sandhi".
