I'm aware that this happens a lot in pulp fiction. However the sorts of
romances I'm referring to aren't actually pulp (though I will frequently
consume that as well) and are definitely individual people.

In romance, as far as I can tell, it's more common for one author to write
under several different names (for different subgenres) than for many
authors to write under one name. By 2020 every big name in the romance
market will secretly be Nora Roberts.
