I was curious as to why there was this major readership for this kind of writing and found some interesting pieces: http://www.sophieweston.net/whyromance.htm A passionate defence, but fails because it misses the point about art. In my opinion, art is about interrogating the status quo and not reinforcing it with every sentence, which is what this genre does.
