India is hardly the only country where self help books, get rich quick in
30 days books etc proliferate.
I can only put it down to the number of charlatans, and their access to
publishing facilities, being roughly equal across most countries.

Well in my view the popularity of self help books does not translate to
Indians not being confident.
In fact they may be overconfident and overoptimistic in imagiing that self help
books will help or that "self help" will suffice. Indians by and large are
overconfident IMO, especially about themselves as individuals. Losing some of
that would be a great idea.
