The problem with the article is that it is an American omphalocentric article. 
Just because Americans are fat and eat sugar this info becomes the truth

However Indians with far less sugar in their regular diets and no corn syrup 
also become fat. As long as you don't have to prove these theories in peer 
reviewed medical journals anything is OK. 

The artcle is a disingenuous one. Lots of foods are toxic unless taken in the 
right (read moderate) amounts. I guesss everyone has heard of carotenemia with 
Vitamin A toxicity caused, among other things, by eating too many carrots.

Abnormal heart rhythms and death from coffee are known.

Water toxicity can occur from excessive water drinking.

Salt overload is well known.

Ayurveda and traditional Indian medicine are full or references to foods that 
cause disease and it is now clear to me that there are food effects described 
in Ayurveda that have clearly not been documented in modern allopathinc 
medicine.
