based explanation like the above .

an example is the typical "why should I wash my hands ? " question that my
son asks - and I reminded him the last time of a rather nasty food
poisoning he got a while back which I said was likely caused by his not
washing hands.  He is now more likely  to wash his hands (though not all
the time) .  The other case is when he is on a bicycle and i am running
after him - I usually let him win , but then 1 out of 5 times I usually
make it a point to win (which used to initially upset him ) but in the end
he knows he is not going to win every-time - its always a bet whether he
wins or not.
