I came down with an acute case of appendicitis while clerking a Quaker Meeting for Worship for Business. It's an interesting experience to try to hold the state of worship for the whole gathered Meeting while your insides are exploding.
I thought for a time that I could do it, that I could somehow arrive at a deep enough state of worship to subdue my rebellious innards. After an hour, I realized I wasn't enlightened enough and headed to the hospital for a more conventional cure.
