For me, his books could've used better editing, but the ideas were worth sticking the course. (But I rarely put down books, which is a bad completist tendency on my part.) As with anything else in literature, YMMV. On Writing, however, is a fabulous book. Start with his short stories and see if you feel like reading more. I wouldn't recommend the novels at this stage. >
