My understanding (from ordering pure metals and gases as part of my previous job) is that 99.9% pure is "three nines" (3N) pure silver, and 99.999 pure is what you would call "five nines" (or 5N) pure. God, I hope I've got it right! That's something I worked with for a long time. Dealers won't buy/sell the ultra-pure grades of anything since it's not useful for monetary value. I just called a coin dealer I know, and he refers to "fine" as 99.9% or better, and sometimes 99.99%. He also said that "pure" is generally considered to be 99.99% or better. > Hope this helps!
