If I could have my way, I would ORDER everyone to feed the dogs, cats and ferrets with the diet that is appropriate for carnivores that they are. That's how sure I am of what is a best nutrition for them. Yes, we all are animals and we all had to pass (or fail in the case of extinctions) the trial of time and evolution. I'm sure you know that nature is the harshest critic of the species. Since the wolves survived for 1.5 million years, they must be getting perfect nutrition, don't you think? Dogs are subspecies of the wolf, they are Canis lupus familiaris. Their perfect nutrition is 80% meat, 10% bones and 10% organ meats. That's all they need to be optimally fed.
Vets have all but few hours of training about nutrition that is done by Hill's Foods representative. Do you think that they know anything about dogs' nutrition? This is also the last post of mine on that matter. Barbara Do you realize you have just accused me of abusing my dear beloved pet, just because I have come to a different conclusion than you have on the subject of feeding? If you have intentially done this, knowing I am not about to change my mind or opinion on the subject, then you are guilty of knowingly hurting the feelings of one of those same dear ones that you are trying to protect. Are we not all animals? Are we not only the older brothers and sisters of the animal kingdom? As far as the subject goes, don't you think it is possible that you don't have all the information on the subject? There are many things that Man does not know, can not know. We can't follow all the canines in the world around to see what they eat. There are many good reasons to feed dogs a vegetarian diet. The vets I have consulted on this have rendered their decision that my dog is well fed and healthy, and complimented me on my dog's coat and health before they had a clue what I fed her. They said, "whatever it is, keep it up, it's working for her." I would appreciate it if you would not attack me personally. That is definitely abuse. Dee has said that this subject might be better left alone (thanks for the reminder), and that reminds me that Mike asked us once before to drop it from the list. So that is what I am going to do.
