L Ron Hubbard was not a very good writer but had a mind as devious as
Robert Anton Wilson.
He pounded his philosophy into the ground to the point of boredom in his
sci fi books, essentially, A fight creates it's own resistance and
Attraction beats force for efficiency every time.
Dianetics and Scientology appear to come across as the exact opposite, but
they aren't...not really.
Dianetics and Scientology are ways to trick people into fighting themselves
without knowing they are, till they get so exhausted that they quit and
look for something else to do.
The struggle in the meantime is about: It takes what it takes to shoot
your own guards. A fight creates it's own resistance.
If the people "knew" they were fighting themselves, they'd just pick
another target.
Then once you've killed your guards and realize all those secrets being
guarded from your conscious mind amounted to nothing, then you have the
force of attraction left to work with...with a "clears" clarity.
You are no longer in your own way without knowing you are.
The test for a "clear" is the ability to tell the Scientologist
organization to "screw off" and take steps to screw them off without
anger.....and they do test hard to make sure.
EST and Family Forum, similar but not so extreme. They don't pursue the
testing nearly as much.

Gee, I read the series and enjoyed the movie, too.
A movie can never capture all the ins and outs of a complicated book
series, but I thought it was pretty good.
The only resemblance the movie bore to the book was the first 5 seconds -
after that, there was none... absolutely none. If you read the book, you
know that.
