Morning Mike,

OK .........

As loudly as you typed, Wayne, I'm not exactly sure what you meant!
I thought is was clear. Sorry.

What is really wrong with Ole's warning?

I did not think it was his. If I thought he wrote it, I would have had a totally different approach.

On the one hand you're you're accusing Ole of parroting:
> ... a BOGUS MAINSTREAM WORTHLESS WARNING !
I guess I know what you mean by parroting.

> >> Then I started giving him 1000 mg. of potassium whenever
>> it would occur, and that stopped the cramping in its tracks.

With this:
> This sounds like a very foolish thing to do PERIOD ! I have taken near an 18 wheeler load of vitamins, minerals, dozens of protein supplements and other things.
> And....... I would not take 1000 mg per dose.
I have taken much less and experienced a heart slow down and decrease in blood pressure.

I was saying this is too much to take at one time, for most people and in my ( not opinion ) experience.

And so on...

So which is it? Is potassium supplementation good or bad?

I had said in a previous message, I take it several times per day and keep it in my pocket. But never 1000 mg per dose.

I had some prescription potassium on hand. I had looked at it for 3 or 4 years and never taken a single one.

One night I decided I would take one. ( 375 mg, ) In a few minutes I could feel my blood pressure was lower and my heart rate was slower. When I checked, my heat rate was 62. of course when I used to run, lift weights, and was in excellent condition it was this low.
Often in the 50's when I would awake
It had not been that slow in years.

It could work 180 beats per minute, all day long.

Maximum accelerate should be 3 times the resting rate.
Maximum rates are by age groups. When I was in my 40's, my maxim heart rate was in the range for teenagers, 200 beats per minute.

If I had been foolish enough to take two or three, no telling what would have happened.

>>Yes, it could be bad but no knowledgeable person will take a >>large dose.

What was really wrong with Ole's warning?
The situation it is talking about likely happens 2 or 3 times per year in the USA.

Many warnings could exist, many not necessary.
A simple one ........ cutting your hand on paper or cardboard is worse than a razor blade or sharp knife.

Driving a Corvette 180 mph with grand children with you ..........
Stupid, but you do not read warnings about that.
Yes, I met a fool recently that did exactly that.

It matched other non justifiable warnings. Some are unnecessary.
It sounded just like doctors, pharmacists, and nurses, and common people that have only read the mainstream.

Calm down, organize your thoughts, don't type so loud, and make sure you write so that we can actually understand what you mean, okay?

If I could type as fast as I can think, I might be half as good as John at writing and explaining things.

Many FDA removals of supplement are based on 2 or 3 bad experiences.

These minor mistakes are worse for people that are sick, have hormone problems, or blood electrolytes that are already out of balance. Of course they should know their condition before they grab a few pills, be it vitamins, minerals, NSAIDS, or drugs.

If not, they are walking on thin ice.

Potassium knowledge by the people mentioned above has been one of my pet peeves for years.

Finally, I have had many stupid friends that are 110 % mainstream tell me the same thing. Like I did not know the facts.

While I do not totally agree with the 99 mg limit per capsule, it is there, for one reason, to protect the ignorant, In addition to providing trips to the doctor for prescription potassium.

My warning is factual and easy to understand. <grin>

If you feel the need and are brave ........ you can take 1000 mg per dose. Again, 100, 200, or 300 mg per dose at intervals is better.
Or..... eat almonds and blackstrap and take fewer pills.
Blackstrap is the highest in most references I have found.

Wayne
