I guess I will have to agree with that. Give the Devil His Dues.
I agree with Kurt, the unprocessed salt and a banana or other fruit high
in potassium is a great way to go.
I guess that is to say, the other fruits that have about the same amount
of potassium are
"High in potassium also".
Did Kurt say a banana was high in Potassium?
We shall see.
Again, high, low, fast, slow, and many other things can only be defined
with Fuzzy Logic, but
because few understand that, I will skip the methods.
This thing about a banana being high in potassium has been wrong all
its life and is misleading the public.
Even in Prevention Magazine, I saw a brief article about the banana being
adequate for Two Drinks, and this information provided was dead wrong.
So, ....... why do I say this ?
The banana and most other fruits and vegetables have about the same
amount of potassium,
........... for all practical purposes. Ranges are from 300 to 400 mg
per 100 grams.
Some are a bit higher and some are a bit lower. But not that much
difference.
You can see many of the contents here at a glance, very quick.
http://www.fugitt.com/trailmix.htm
So, ........ what foods are high, average ? That is hard to define,
However, many are higher than the banana, a good long list for that matter.
Heck, even black eyed peas are higher.
Take a look at Almonds and Black Strap molasses. And "Grandma's" does
not taste bad.
Cowpeas and peanuts are much higher than bananas, as are many foods.
So, who, when, and Where did this somewhat misinformation start about
bananas ?
Likely the Banana industry, and .......... virtually no one questioned
it, everyone believed it, but it is in fact Hogwash.
My Trailmix page proves it, and all other nutrition tables do also.
You can go right down the line and see the potassium of many foods on
the Trailmix page.
This is not to say, don't eat bananas and all the other fruit. Eat as
many as you can get your hands on.
But rest assured, people will be saying 100 years from now, ............
Bananas are high in potassium. Wait until the next doctor tells
me that, if every one does.
But then, why try to make a doctor look like a fool ? Usually he does
it before I have to.
I guess I would say, ...........
Bananas are only average in Potassium, for foods that contain
potassium.
Some are very low and should not be compared. But most fruits and
vegetables all have close to the same.
Different opinions welcome but try to make yours as clear as I did
mine. <grin>
Almost forgot the important part............ get the potassium before
you get the leg cramps,
Not After. ( Other minerals and electrolytes also )
