I think wall wart is specific enough. I've never seen one that wasn't a power supply employing at least a step-down transformer and rectifier. A lot of people just call them "AC adapters", which is also specific enough, since that's what many manufacturers call them. Radio Shack sells a wall wart with selectable output voltage which they refer to as a "universal power supply". Now *that* is a serious misuse of a term, IMO. :) > > You might do best to forget much of the junk from those >years. Forgetting is not advisable for me, as I still own Ampeg, Vox, and Gretsch amps from the early sixties. Sometimes they require repair, but nothing sounds better for my guitars. > I doubt that you will mention any > term I have not seen and few that I do not understand what they are. > > Now a good question for you. > > If the critter was a "Power Supply Transformer", would it be a power > supply? The power supply transformer is the main component of the power supply circuit, which also may contain rectifier and filtering circuitry. > I have a ppm calculation problem for you, much more interesting > that some of this other stuff. <grin> > Send it to a lab. Easy enough solution, right? <dons flame retardant underwear and takes cover> > Nothing more on Wall Warts and terms from me. > If you do not understand it now, ..........I am sorry. > I understand it just fine, actually. Sorry I used such a broad context, it's true I could have been more specific. My original statement would have been more complete had I said "power supply circuitry", as the power supply transformer is not the entire power supply in a wall wart. Otherwise, how could you get DC from AC? Mere mutual inductance is pretty amazing, but it can't do that... :) Cheers, indi -- The Silver List is a moderated forum for discussing Colloidal Silver.
