Why is it these things always turn personal?
I guess it is because people are very touchy about their food choices.
I remember reading an account by a man from the NE US that was living
in Africa. It was Christmas time, and he was nostalgically remembering
the family meal that he was undoubtable missing. He was visiting a
neighboring tribe with some men from the first tribe, and they were
being treated to a meal, the main course of which was some kind of
larga larva cooked in a characteristic way. His friend said to him that
he understood completely what the man was feeling, because he himslef
was missing his own wife's cooking, as she prepared the larva
differently. The writer did not think he was being understood, since
he was missing a complete sit down holiday meal with turkey, dressing
and all the trimmings; he thought it was funny/odd/haha.
I thought they were on the same wavelength- both missing what was
familiar comfort food.
