I wound up sending this privately when I really meant for it to go to the list.

I had the same thing happen. I had been storing my homemade CS in Mrs.
Butterworth bottles (which I now call Mrs. Silverworth) and all was well.
Then when my husband began soaking his feet in it for toenail fungus, I had
to make larger batches and because the CS was to be used externally, I
began storing it in the gallon size Musselman's Apple Juice jugs. These are
very nice heavy duty plastic jugs and because they had been used for food
storage I figured they'd be okay.

I make my CS a quart at a time so it takes many batches to fill 2 gallon
jugs. The CS looked fine for awhile. Then a few days later one of the jugs
turned charcoal color. I checked to see if it was just the jug or also the
CS and it was both. Then the other jug gradually turned yellow but it
didn't stop there. It kept turning darker as each day went by, CS, jug and
all.

HOWEVER, all was not lost. We used the CS anyway as it was only external.
The next batches that went in these same jugs are now staying the original
color, which is pretty much colorless. The jug itself, of course, is still
stained dark (incidentally, all of this CS was made with Absopure DW)

I still prefer my Mrs. Silverworth bottles and continue to use those for
internal consumption storage. Only thing is, my latest trip to the grocery
store revealed a NEW and IMPROVED PLASTIC bottle for the Mrs. Butterworth
lite. Drat!! I suppose they'll go and do the same thing with the Mrs.
Butterworth regular. Every time you find something you like, they go and
change it on ya!
