I don't know anything about gel forms of DMSO but I have had good luck
deodorizing DMSO liquid by "freezing" in the refrigerator (not freezer).
You let the DMSO freeze and then pour out the water which contains most of
the bad smell.  Just let the DMSO re-liquify at room temp, and you will
find that the worst of the odor is gone.  This doesn't completely deodorize
the DMSO, but it much improves it.
