Does anyone know how to discern a yam from a sweet potatoe?

There are hundreds of species of wild yams. I think Diosgenin is the one that 
will fit the bill. In general yams have a lot of nutrients and are high in 
saponins. It's a good idea to grow your own if your climate permits.
