A "pocket" will often trap a foreign onject in it and the body will attempt to reject it with inflammation and infection.

I fought with a pocket for a decade, sometimes a waterpic full of CS would dislodge the foreign matter and everything would be OK for a while, sometimes the dentist would hook it with one of his torture devises.... but I finally had that tooth pulled and , within a few hours, all my other teeth were suddenly no longer painfully heat and cold sensitive.
..shoulda done that YEARS ago !!

Bottom line: So long as that pocket exists, even successfully addressing the infection is not addressing the cause and it will come back. Short of maybe super gluing the gum back onto the tooth to seal the area up, there is no way to eliminate a pocket that I know of. [other than losing the tooth]
